are part of a nationwide campaign
to boost dismal vegetable consumption
(From: Oh My Gulay!).
It's July and it's Nutrition Month in the Philippines. The theme for this year is: "Pagkain ng gulay ugaliin, araw-araw itong ihain!"

Here are some veggie facts that we Filipinos ought to know. Facts gathered from press releases.

  • Filipinos eat only 110 grams of veggies everyday.
  • Low fruit and vegetable intake is among the top 10 selected risk factors for global mortality or death.
  • 1.7 million deaths are due to low intake of fruits and vegetables.
  • Only 67.7 of Filipino households have vegetable gardens for fruit trees.
The Department of Health suggests the practice of 3G veggie habit. We should eat more than three servings of vegetables everyday. A serving is equal to a cup of raw leafy vegetables of 1/2 cup of raw or cooked non-leafy vegetables.

We should also grow vegetables at home, in schools, communities and all possible places.
