Open to all students from private and public school in Metro Manila. Entries must start with the sentence "I'm a firm believer that one has to think big to make things happen."

Application forms may be downloaded from www.filstar.com.ph. Deadline of submission of entries is on September 30, 2012.


A. Eligibility

1. The contest is open for all public and private high school (all four levels) students in Metro Manila from July 27 to September 30, 2012.
2. All participants should be bona fide students for academic year 2012-2013.
3. Filstar Distributors Corporation employees and their relatives up to the 3rd degree of consanguinity or affinity is disqualified to join.

B. Theme
Write a story that begins with this sentence: “ I'm a firm believer that one has to think big to make things happen.”

C. Format
1. The article should be written in English composing of 600 to 900 hundred words.
2. It should be original and unpublished whether in print or on-line.
2.1 It was not included in previous writing contests.
3. All participants must strictly observe copyright rules (e.g. No plagiarism, with proper accreditation of sources, etc.)
4. The entries may be typewritten/printed on letter size (8.5”X11”) bond paper and must be double-spaced using 12 font size and Times New Roman or Arial font style. With 1 inch margin at each side.
5. The title of the essay and the name of the entrant should be on each page of the entry written and must be written at the top left corner of the succeeding pages.

D. Submission of Entries
1. To join, the entrants must submit the following requirements and their entries with complete information on or before September 30, 2012:
a. Photocopy of valid school ID for academic year 2012-1213.
b. Duly accomplished application form

2. Entries can be submitted in two ways:
a. Handcarry or mail: “Think Big, Think BIC” Writing Competition

b. On-line: Upload the requirements at www.filstar.com.ph. Zip file of Word document (.doc) files, jpeg files (at least 150 dpi), or pdf files are acceptable.
A confirmation message will be sent to the registrants once the files are validated. Entries with missing requirements will automatically be disqualified.


E. Determination of Winners

1. In each selection round, the entries will be judged based on the following criteria:
Adherence to theme and originality
(consistency of the ideas to the topic and
uniqueness of the essay's components) 35%
Substance and content 25%
Style, Organization, and Creativity
(presentation of ideas in logical manner) 20%
Language Proficiency and Coherence
(accurate usage of the language) 20%

TOTAL: 100%

2. Initial screening shall be done by Filstar Distributors Corp (FDC) to select top 50 contestants based on the given set of criteria. Initial screening is on October 3, 2012, 10 AM, at FDC office, 11 Brixton St, Brgy. Kapitolyo, Pasig City in the presence of a DTI representative.
3. The top 50 entries shall undergo a second screening process where the panel of judges shall select top 20 contestants to move on to the finals. The second screening is on October 5, 2012 10 AM, at FDC office, 11 Brixton St, Brgy. Kapitolyo, Pasig City. The finalists will be informed any time from October 8 to 12, 2012. Each of the 20 finalists will receive P1000.
3. The finalists will participate in a FREE half-day writing workshop/seminar with a professional writer on October 17, 2012.
4. The Grand Finals will be an on-the-spot writing competition to be held right after the writing workshop/seminar on October 17, 2012 at FDC office, 11 Brixton St, Brgy. Kapitolyo, Pasig City. The competition topic which is related to the competition theme will be announced only on the Grand Finals itself.
5. The panel of judges on the second screening and grand finals shall be composed of notable Filipino writers, members of writing organization, publication editors/journalists and/or members of FDC management. A DTI representative shall also be present during judging.
6. Announcement of winners and awarding of prizes shall be done immediately after judging.

F. Prizes
1. Each of the 20 finalists will receive P1000.
2. For the Grand Finals, the prizes are:

Grand Prize Winner P15, 000 cash plus an Acer Aspire Computer Set
for the school and certificate of recognition
1st Runner Up Winner P10, 000 cash and certificate of recognition
2nd Runner Up Winner P5, 000 cash and certificate of recognition
